2026 estimate notice: This calculator uses the currently published Oklahoma fee schedules and general tax rules. It is not an official quote. Used-vehicle taxable value can be adjusted by Service Oklahoma using approved retail-value references, so the final excise tax may differ.

For a standard vehicle sale subject to Oklahoma vehicle excise tax, local city/county sales tax is not added. Under the current vehicle sales-tax rule effective July 11, 2026, a trade-in reduces the 1.25% sales-tax basis, but does not reduce the excise-tax basis. The displayed combined EV/PHEV annual totals apply to qualifying four-wheel vehicles; motorcycle estimates use the motor-fuel fee only. The estimate excludes variable tire tax, specialty-plate charges, title-lien fees, late penalties, dealer/doc fees, out-of-state tax credits, and exemptions. A standard plate and decal are issued at registration; optional Iconic Oklahoma plate replacement is $4 during renewal or $9 outside renewal.

How to Calculate Oklahoma Tag, Title & Tax

This guide explains the formulas used in the Oklahoma Tag, Tax & Title Calculator. The results are estimates; Service Oklahoma determines the final amount due.

1. Motor Vehicle Excise Tax

New vehicle

Formula:

Excise tax = Vehicle sale price × 3.25%

Example: A new vehicle costs $35,000.

$35,000 × 0.0325 = $1,137.50

Estimated excise tax: $1,137.50

Used vehicle

Formula used in the calculator:

Excise tax = $20 + [max($0, Vehicle sale price − $1,500) × 3.25%]

Example: A used vehicle costs $35,000.

$20 + [($35,000 − $1,500) × 0.0325] = $1,108.75

Estimated excise tax: $1,108.75

2. Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Sales Tax

Formula used in the calculator:

Sales tax = max($0, Vehicle sale price − Trade-in allowance) × 1.25%

The trade-in allowance cannot exceed the vehicle sale price in the calculator.

Example without a trade-in:

$35,000 × 0.0125 = $437.50

Estimated sales tax: $437.50

Example with a $5,000 trade-in:

($35,000 − $5,000) × 0.0125 = $375.00

Estimated sales tax: $375.00

In the calculator’s formula, the trade-in reduces the sales-tax calculation, but it does not reduce the excise-tax calculation. The code does not add a separate local city or county sales-tax amount to this vehicle transaction.

3. Annual Registration (Tag) Fee

The calculator selects the registration fee according to vehicle type and the vehicle-age value entered.

Registration bracketPassenger car / truckMotorcycle
Years 1–4$96.00$99.00
Years 5–8$86.00$89.00
Years 9–12$66.00$69.00
Years 13–16$46.00$49.00
Year 17 and later$26.00$29.00

How the age input maps to the bracket in this code:

  • Age 0–3: first bracket
  • Age 4–7: second bracket
  • Age 8–11: third bracket
  • Age 12–15: fourth bracket
  • Age 16 or older: fifth bracket

4. Annual Alternative-Fuel Fee

For qualifying four-wheel vehicles, the calculator adds the following annual total for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Select the vehicle’s weight class in the calculator.

Weight classFully electric vehiclePlug-in hybrid
Class 1: under 6,000 lb$210.00$112.00
Class 2: 6,000–10,000 lb$258.00$148.00
Class 3: over 10,000–26,000 lb$463.00$302.00
Class 7: over 26,000 lb$2,350.00$1,717.00

The calculator uses $30.00 per year for a non-plug-in hybrid. Motorcycle alternative-fuel charges are handled separately in the code.

5. Title and Other Initial-Registration Fees

For a purchase transaction, the calculator adds:

  • Title fee: $11.00
  • Ownership transfer fee: $17.00
  • Insurance verification fee: $1.50
  • VIN inspection fee: $4.00, only if the VIN inspection option is selected
  • Standard plate fee: $0.00 in this estimate

Without a VIN inspection, the standard one-time fees total:

$11.00 + $17.00 + $1.50 = $29.50

6. Total Estimated Cost for a Purchase

Formula:

Total estimate = Excise tax + Sales tax + Registration fee + Annual fuel fee + Title fee + Transfer fee + Insurance verification fee + Applicable VIN inspection fee

The annual fuel fee is $0.00 for a standard gasoline or diesel vehicle in this calculator. It is included when calculating the registration/annual-fee subtotal for an applicable hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric vehicle.

Example 1: Used gasoline car costing $35,000

Assumptions: vehicle-age input is 0, no trade-in, no VIN inspection, and gasoline/diesel fuel.

ItemAmount
Used-vehicle excise tax$1,108.75
State motor vehicle sales tax$437.50
Annual registration fee$96.00
Title fee$11.00
Ownership transfer fee$17.00
Insurance verification fee$1.50
Estimated total$1,671.75

Example 2: New gasoline car costing $35,000

Assumptions: vehicle-age input is 0, no trade-in, no VIN inspection, and gasoline/diesel fuel.

ItemAmount
New-vehicle excise tax$1,137.50
State motor vehicle sales tax$437.50
Annual registration fee$96.00
Title fee$11.00
Ownership transfer fee$17.00
Insurance verification fee$1.50
Estimated total$1,700.50

Example 3: Used gasoline car costing $35,000 with a $5,000 trade-in

Assumptions: vehicle-age input is 0, no VIN inspection, and gasoline/diesel fuel.

ItemAmount
Used-vehicle excise tax (trade-in does not reduce it)$1,108.75
Sales tax: ($35,000 − $5,000) × 1.25%$375.00
Annual registration fee$96.00
Title, transfer, and insurance fees$29.50
Estimated total$1,609.25

7. Annual Renewal Formula

When Annual Renewal is selected, the calculator does not add purchase excise tax, vehicle sales tax, title fee, ownership transfer fee, insurance verification fee, or VIN inspection fee.

Formula:

Annual renewal estimate = Annual registration fee + Applicable annual fuel fee

Example: A standard gasoline passenger car with an age input of 0 has an estimated renewal cost of $96.00 in this calculator.

Important Note

These formulas reflect the logic implemented in this calculator and are for estimation only. The final amount may differ because of official vehicle valuation rules, exemptions, plate choices, late fees, lien fees, tire fees, dealer charges, or other transaction-specific requirements. Verify the amount due with Service Oklahoma before relying on the estimate.
